ITINERARY
Day 1 - Sunday
ARMAGH & THE ULSTER AMERICAN FOLK PARK
Tour from Dublin to Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland. You'll visit both St. Patick's Cathedrals! Nearby visit the Navan Fort and hear the tales of Chuhullan and Emain Macha from Celtic mythology. Continue to the Ulster American Folk Park which is both an indoor and outdoor museum. It covers the period between the Scots Plantation to emigration to the New World. On to Derry City, founded by St. Columcille in the 5th century. You'll stay at the Beech Hill House Hotel this evening. A welcome reception of Irish Coffee - followed by a welcome dinner at the hotel and chat about our forthcoming Northern Ireland adventure.
Day 2 - Monday
DERRY CITY
You'll enjoy a tour of the walled city and walk the 17th century walls and view the Guild Hall, the Bogside and St. Colum's Cathedral. See the Guild Hall where the City Council sits. The Doherty Castle and the Derry City Museum, which takes you back through time from St. Columcille in the 5th century to the 'Troubles' of the late 20th century. Walk the city walls that were built in the early 17th century. Be sure to stop at the Heritage Center on Bishop Street. This building is dedicated to Conn O'Scannlain's mother, Moira Hegarty O'Scannlain. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring and shopping in this vibrant city. Dinner on your own tonight.
Day 3 - Tuesday
MALIN HEAD & GRIANAN
Tour into County Donegal, (part of the Province of Ulster), to Malin Head the most northerly point on the island of Ireland. Visit Grianan of Aileach, a circular stone fort dating to 1700BC and later the seat of the O'Neills, Kings of Ulster. Return to Derry. Dinner in the dining room this evening.
Day 4 - Wednesday
THE GIANTS CAUSEWAY & THE GLENS OF ANTRIM
On to visit Dunluce Castle, a McDonnell Castle, sitting precariously on a cliff edge. Continue to the Giant's Causeway. The legend has it that Finn McCool, the mythical giant, built this bridge to Scotland to reach his beloved. The hexagonal shaped stone pilings and pillar are a geological marvel. On to visit the oldest distillery in Ireland or Britain, Bushmills, which received its charter in 1608. Tour to Ballycastle, with views of Rathlin Island and Kyle of Lochcalsh, Scotland. Try your skills at crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge before heading on to marvel at the scenic Glens of Antrim and visit the warrior-poet's grave, Ossian, son of Finn McCool the legendary giant. On south along St. George's Channel visiting the towns of Carnlough, Cushendun and Cushendall.
Stop in Carrickfergus, where King William of Orange landed in 1690 to fight the forces of King James II. On to Northern Ireland's capital - Belfast City. Stay at the famous Europa Hotel, where heads of State and Presidents have stayed. Dinner in the dining room this evening.
Day 5 - Thursday
BELFAST CITY
Enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of the city. The architecture is borrowed from London: the City Hall, Linenhall Library and the Law Courts. Stop at the Crown Liquor Saloon! Visit the shipyards where the HMS Titanic was built. Afternoon at leisure to explore Belfast City. You'll stay at the Europa Hotel. Dinner on your own tonight.
Day 6 - Friday
MOUNT STEWART & DOWNPATRICK
Tour to Newtownards and visit Mount Stewart House and Gardens. Tour along beautiful Strangford to Downpatrick and visit the grave of St. Patrick - the patron saint of Ireland. You'll also see the majestic Mountains of Mourne. Return to Belfast via Lisburn, once the hub of the linen industry. Dinner in the dining room this evening.
Day 7 - Saturday -
BATTLE OF THE BOYNE & MELLIFONT & ARMAGH
Tour south to the Irish Republic, stopping at Old Mellifont Abbey, Ireland's first Cistercian Abbey. On to the site of the Battle of the Boyne - Oldbridge Estate and see where the famous battle was fought. Continue to Dublin Airport where you stay at the Radisson SAS Hotel. Dinner on your own tonight.
Day 8 - Sunday
DEPART FOR HOME
Transfer to Dublin Airport Departures terminal. Depart for home.
