Day 1 - Sunday ARRIVAL IN DUBLIN Welcome to Dublin, Ireland's Capital.
Transfer to the Clontarf Castle Hotel. You'll enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of Dublin this afternoon or you can explore Dublin on your own.
A welcome reception of Irish Coffee - and a welcome dinner in a private dining room.
Day 2 - Monday DUBLIN'S FAIR CITY Tour north to Bru na Boinne Visitor Center which presents one of
Europe's great archaeological mysteries, along the Boyne Valley, and Newgrange or Knowth neolithic burial tomb, which predates the pyramids.
Return to Dublin with time to shop and enjoy this 1,000 year old city.
You can visit the Book of Kells at Trinity College. Evening at leisure. Dinner on your own tonight.
Day 3 - Tuesday CLONMACNOISE & CONG Leave Dublin heading west toward Athlone and stop at Clonmacnoise, a 6th century monastic settlement on the banks of the Shannon River. It was founded by St. Ciaran. You'll marvel at the
stone High Crosses with carved panels depicting stories from the Bible. On to County Mayo stopping in the village of Cong, which was the set for the John Wayne movie
'The Quiet Man.' Arrive at Ashford Castle, the premier 5 star resort in Ireland. Formerly the family home of the Guinness family. This magnificent estate offers recreational activities from golf to falconry. Set on the shores of Lough Corrib it also offers fishing. You'll spend four days here
and can choose to relax and enjoy the elegant resort or join the daily excursions and tour the countryside with your luxury motorcoach and experienced driver-guide. Dinner in the dining room this evening.
Ashford has a dress code after 6:00PM for all public rooms. Jacket and tie for gentlemen and appropriate attire for the ladies.
Day 4 - Wednesday GALWAY EXCURSION You can relax and enjoy the castle and its amenities or join your driver-guide and tour to Galway City. The City of the Tribes!
A university city with a vibrant youthful population and set on the Corrib River and Galway Bay. You'll see the Claddagh District, Eyre Square, Spanish Arch and Galway Cathedral. Christopher Columbus stopped here on his way to the New World.
Stroll the pedestrianized streets lined with shops, pubs and restaurants. Return to Ashford Castle for a leisure evening. Dinner on your own tonight. There are two restaurants in the castle.
Day 5 - Thursday CONNEMARA TOUR You can relax and enjoy the castle. Play golf on the castle course or join your driver-guide and tour into Connemara.
Drive up the scenic Lough Inagh Valley to Kylemore Abbey and enjoy a visit. It is now a private school for girls. The Victorian Gardens are spectacular. On to Clifden, the capital of Connemara. Connemara is an area of rare beauty with purple mountains, deep blue lakes and
streams and white-washed stone cottages dotting the landscape. Return to Ashford Castle for a leisure evening. Dinner on your own tonight.
Day 6 - Friday ACHILL ISLAND & THE CEIDE FIELDS Tour to Achill Island, Ireland's largest island. View the Minaun Cliffs and the deserted sandy beaches. On to Belmullet, crossing a blanket bog that stretches to Ballycastle.
Stop at the Ceide Fields where you will see how they discovered a 5000 year old farming community under the blanket bog. Return to Ashford Castle via Ballina.
Dinner on your own tonight.
Day 7 - Saturday FAMINE MUSEUM & TRIM CASTLE Depart our castle estate and tour to Strokestown in County Roscommon and visit the Famine Museum where you will learn about life on a Tenant Farm during the Great Famine of the 1800s.
Strokestown House is a Pladdian style building with furinishing of the period. Cross the midlands to Trim and visit Trim Castle, one of the largest Anglo-Norman
castles in Ireland and also the setting for the Mel Gibson movie 'Braveheart.' Stay this evening at the Crowne Plaza near Dublin Airport. Dinner on your own tonight. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant and a convivial bar and lounge.
Day 8 - Sunday DEPART FOR HOME Transfer to Dublin Airport. Depart for home.
